The LPC's purpose is to guide and promote regional prevention planning while working to build the infrastructure necessary for successful prevention efforts.
This collaborative partners with the Allegan Substance Abuse Prevention Coalition, Berrien Community Alliance Against Substance Abuse, the Drug Free Muskegon Coalition, the Ottawa Substance Abuse Prevention Coalition, and CHOOSE (Communities Helping Ottawa Obain a Safer Environment). In the fall of 2007, the LPC began exploring the impact of alcohol-related traffic crashes (ARTC) in the lakeshore region, identified contributing conditions, and developed a regional plan to guide local coalition efforts to prevent ARTCs.
Through a grant to LCC from the Michigan Department of Community Health/Office of Drug Control Policy (MDCH/ODCP), local partner collaboratives have established ARTC reduction task forces and have an opportunity to receive funding to implement strategies identified in the regional strategic plan that are most relevant to their communities’ needs.
